Where in the world is Wang Lee Hom (王力宏)? Sierra Leone! No, not to shoot Blood Diamond 2 but to go visit the children over there and see where all the money he raised doing World Vision’s 30hr famine is going. He’s brought along a lot of mini instruments to share with the kids to help bring some happiness and light into their lives through music. When I read about this I was so touched. I couldn’t think of a better gift for these kids. I know building classrooms and having books and pens is important as well as education is the fundamental stepping to build a better future, however I really feel that music is such a simple thing understood by everyone that can bring so much joy. I cannot help but feel moved that these children will get to share in the talents of a musical genius like Lee Hom.
Lee Hom’s visit to Sierra Leone is only one of many celebrities that have publicly made an effort this year to help the poor and needy. Earlier this month Wilber Pan (潘瑋柏) braved the Swine flu outbreak in order to visit the children he sponsors in Honduras. Check out the World Vision video including a song Wilber Pan wrote for it which is on his latest album. It’s so cute when the kids say 你好 台灣 at the end of the clip with their huge huge HUGE grins!
Earlier this year Blackie (黑人) and girlfriend Fan Fan (范瑋琪) rounded up the troops to help support their love life advertisement campaign. This ad campaign was inspired by a child Blackie sponsors with cancer. I’m not too sure what the point of the love life campaign is but I think it’s to generally raise awareness and to give these kids encouragement to keep fighting and live.
